David Xu (Yongwei)

David (Yongwei) Xu, also known as bigcat, is a young Chinese watercolor artist known for his sensitive observation of everyday life. His fresh, fluid brushwork combines warmth and humanity, capturing both the simplicity of rural scenes and the textures of urban life. Rather than focusing on excessive detail, he uses color and water to convey emotion and has developed a distinctive lyrical style.

His work has been selected for major exhibitions in China and abroad and has received multiple awards. He is also active in watercolor education, cultural exchange, teaching courses, contributing to art education materials, and participating in international watercolor festivals and exhibitions. I n his spare time, h e also enjoys designing and creating his own art tools. As an art educator, he encourages students to observe deeply, connect emotionally, and capture the spirit of a place rather than simply reproduce its details.
